Note from bratlady.com: We have basically copied everything out of the original owner's manual, omitting only references to ®Summagraphics support, dealers, etc., which are obsolete as of now. There are a few added notations from our own and others' experiences, especially pertaining to newer operating systems---but these are shown in purple text as to avoid confusion.
We attempted to get in touch with the copyright owners so as to avoid any copyright infringement, but were unable to. We hope that, in putting this manual online, we haven't broken any copyright rules or anything like that......we merely intend to help those who are unable to find these resources elsewhere. We come in peace. ;-D

DMP-160 Series Plotters Operation Manual

Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

DMP-160 Series Plotter Models

This manual is a reference guide for installing and operating the following DMP-160 Series plotter models:

  • The DMP-161, which can handle cut-sheet plotting media up to 24 inches (610 mm) wide, including Engineering D size, Architectural D size, and Oversize DIN/ISO A0 media.

  • The DMP-162, which can handle cut-sheet plotting media up to 36 inches (915 mm) wide, including Engineering E size, Architectural E size, and Oversize DIN/ISO A0 media.

  • The DMP-162R, which can handle roll media or cut-sheet media in all sizes handled by the DMP-161 and DMP-162 plotter models.

CAUTION: To prevent possible personal injury, make sure that the plotter's power is turned off or the plotter is off-line before loading pens or media. Make sure that the media is free to move back and forth and stand clear of the media and the plotter's moving parts while using the control panel or while the plotter is on- line. Keep hands, hair, clothing and jewelry away from moving parts.

Safe Operation

Because the DMP-160 Series plotter is designed for maximum plotting speed, the plotter's pen and media handling parts move at high rates of acceleration. These parts, and the plotting media loaded in the plotter, can move suddenly when a key on the control panel is pressed or when the plotter receives a command from the host computer.

Quick Start

If you are installing a new plotter or setting up the plotter for the first time:
  1. Follow the instructions in Chapter 2: Installation to set up and connect the plotter.
  2. Install one or more pens (see Installing Pens).
  3. Load plotting media (see Media)
After following the above steps, your plotter will be ready to produce an internal plot. If you want to test the plotter's operation at this point, refer to Chapter 4: Control Panel for instructions on using the control panel and see Internal Plots Menu in the same chapter for a list of internal plots.

Before you can send drawings to the plotter from your computer, you must configure the plotter and your computer's software to work with each other. Consult your software's manual to configure the program for a plotter, and determine the plotter settings it requires. Then use the plotter's control panel to access its Configuration Menu, as explained under Menus. and set:
  • the emulation mode to one supported by your program or driver (see Language).
  • the serial interface baud rate (see Baud Rate).
  • the serial interface parity (see Parity).
  • the serial interface handshaking (see RTS/DTR).
